What is the next step in human evolution? Moving beyond patriarchy, beyond reptilian brain dominance, beyond dualism, bringing our intuition and mystical brains alive, unleashing our mammal brains of creativity and compassion and caring for self, others, Mother Earth and her creatures might be a good start. Matthew Fox thinks so and he likes to cite Albert Einstein, who said humanity “is now moving into the third phase of religious experience: cosmic religion.”

Join Matthew, one of the most distinguished spiritual teachers of our time, for this five part online class to discover the next step in human evolution, and to become inspired and grounded in a deep spirituality that honors the earth, incorporates the universe, and prepares us to act in ways that center and ground us for the challenging work that lies ahead for our species and for our planet.

Matthew will take you for a journey into the world and teachings of two medieval spiritual geniuses: Julian of Norwich and Thomas Acquinas. Though they lived centuries ago and a century a part, they were part of a spiritual revolution that can still center and ground us for the challenging work ahead for our species and our planet.

Julian, who lived through the deadliest pandemic in Europe’s history, the bubonic plague that killed 35-50% of the population, has much to teach us today about living through a pandemic. She was the first woman writer in English, an amazing feminist 700 years before the women’s movement, a champion of the sacredness and love of nature–“God and nature are one,” and the divine feminine: “God is delighted to be our Mother.” Both theologians champion non-dualism and a love of earth, matter and body, a conviction that nature and grace are one.

Aquinas is one of the greatest mystics and minds of Western civilization. He attempted a revolution in theology by spending a lifetime bringing the best scientific mind of his era, Aristotle, into Europe. He was the first philosopher in Europe to speak of “the common good” and insisted that both justice and creativity belong at the heart of a viable spirituality. His work inspired Dante, Mechtild of Magdeburg, Julian, and Meister Eckhart, and by way of Eckhart such notables as Carl Jung, Karl Marx, Annie Dillard, Nicolas of Cusa and therefore physicist David Bohm.
